Lough Derg

The East Clare Lakelands has about 30 to 40 lakes. Clare Ecolodge is centrally located to these. We are located 10 km from Lough Derg and 7km from the lesser known but equally  impressive Lough Graney.

Lough Derg has many attractions. Boating, watersports, fishing, bird watching, walking and cycling routes are some of the activities available. There are many ancient settlements as well, including Brian Boru’s fortress, the Brian Boru Oak,  and Holy Island.

Lough Graney is a paradise of tranquility situated in the Slieve Aughty mountain range. The lake is famous for being the setting of the Irish dramatic classic, Cúirt An Mheán Oíche (The Midnight Court) by Brian Merriman. On the lake shore there is also a primeval forest, Dillon’s Wood.  It is also a safe lake for swimming.
